Locally, the residential area above Keahole Kona International Airport is known as “The Palisades”. In actuality, the area is made of up many subdivisions, the largest being Kona Palisades Estates. The main road in Kona Palisades is Kaiminani (Ka-imi-nani) Drive that begins at Hwy 19, approximately 1/2 mile South of Kona Airport, near sea level, and goes up the hill to the 1500 ft. elevation at Mamalahoa (Mama-la-hoe-ah) Hwy.
Three of the larger neighborhoods adjacent to Kona Palisades are Kona Coastview, Kona Wonderview, and Kona Highlands. In addition, there are numerous small neighborhoods including: Alii Kehau, Hualalai Terrace, Kahaolino, Kalaoa Terrace, Kalaoa View, Keahole Heights, Keahole Mauka, Keonelehua Heights, Kokua Loa, Kona Acres, Kona Ocean View, Lokahi Makai, Makaula, Moana Vista, Puuhonua Estates, Puukala, University Heights, University Heights West, University Parkside, Wainane Estates.
Each neighborhood has it’s unique characteristics, from lot sizes of 7,500 s.f. to 1 acre or larger, underground vs. overhead utilities, age and size of houses, etc. What they all share is a convenient location, just a few minutes to downtown Kailua-Kona, Kona Airport, Honokohau Boat Harbor, schools, shopping, and easy access to Kohala resorts and beaches, Waikoloa and Waimea.
